Welcome to Bloodwood Isle
I’ve come up with a name for the project. Bloodwood Isle was the name for an idea I originally had for a different adventure, but this project is so large I don’t see other adventure writing being frequent in my future. If I cycle back to the original idea I’ll choose a new name.
Session Notes: Session 1 of Sunday Night 2E Cairn
Last night was my first session playing in a new Cairn campaign with a bunch of strangers from the Cairn Discord Server. It’s a good group and it was a fun session. I look forward to our next session on Sunday. We are Cobb, a Fieldwarden (my character), Crier, a Fletchwind, Fern, a Greenwise, Raven, a Prowler, and Sawbones, a Barber-Surgeon.
Rethinking The Island
Now that I’ve had a night to sleep on it, I don’t like the haphazard distribution of results on the Jungle Island depthcrawl. I think I can create a predictable pattern without making the boundaries of the island feel too artificial.
Figuring Out Depthcrawl Math
When running a depthcrawl you procedurally generate locations on the map by rolling
dX+Depth
, whereDepth
is the distance in points from the start of the crawl, on Locations and Details tables and then combine the results. Each result on the two tables are not equally likely to appear during a given crawl because theDepth
value creates a sliding window ofX
results for each roll.I Want to Write a Mega-Depthcrawl
I like the idea of megadungeons. In particular, I like the idea of running megadungeons. My biggest problem is they are a bear to prepare as very often their presentation leaves a lot to be desired. Arden Vul is amazing, but those books read like the driest of textbooks making prep work tedious and time consuming. Barrowmaze is better but not by a lot. There has to be a better way.
